I am novice here. So right now for me the main job is to read and get familiar with all the technical documents about our equipments.
And there is a term here which I am not sure what kind of procedure it is.
Here is the original sentence from the Hydrostatic test procedure for a seawater filter:

"All fabrication has been completed, except for operations which could not be performed prior to the test as such weld end preparation, cosmetic grinding on the base materical which does not affect the require thickness ."

"cosmetic grinding" -what it is ? Is it some kind of polishing in the vessel' surface?

Can any one help me get the picture here?

应该是磨外圆或或磨削表面

“所有的制造已经完成，除了不能预先进行的工作，比如焊接的准备工作、并不会影响基础材料表面厚度的磨削工作”

我认为这里代表表面的，外观的磨削。

打磨也许比较贴切

因为cosmetic 有装饰、化妆的意思，后面还说grinding      does not affect the
require thickness .磨的量应该很少，光饰磨-类似于抛光

AWS A3.0中的一个类似解释:

cosmetic weld bead: a weld bead used to enhace appearance. 由此理解这个就不难了

grinding 　打磨
cosmetic grinding 可理解为“为了表面美观而进行的打磨”

专业点应是"坡口准备"

表面抛光！  原因：在焊接过程中焊道的表面是会产生一定的飞溅等缺陷的。表面抛光的目的就是消除外观缺陷！

I am sorry for repost the quotation for unfamiliar with the operation...
what i want to say is that is there any bevel maching or preparation still need and permited to make when you get the hydro test stage?
